As posted on our Winona Elementary website:
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I would like to share with you some concerns that I have related to student morning arrival at school. Please be aware that classes begin at 8:30 a.m. each day at Winona Elementary School. Arriving after the start of the Instructional Day means students are late for school. Over the past several weeks, we have noticed that we still have lines of cars pulling into the “Kiss and Drop” lane well past 8:30 a.m. and as late at 8:40 a.m.
We ask for your support in the following areas:
- If you are driving your child(ren) to school, please have them dropped off by 8:30 a.m. at the latest.
- Playground supervision outside runs from 8:15 – 8:30 a.m. To ensure the safety of children during arrival, we have teachers on duty in the “Kiss and Drop” Lane during this time period only.
- Instructional Time begins at 8:30 a.m. so the teachers are in the classrooms and no longer on duty outside including the “Kiss and Drop” Lane.
- To ensure a seamless flow of traffic and to prevent congestion, please consider leaving your home 5-10 minutes earlier.
We appreciate your consideration of this important matter.

You can use the above link to find out our class party dates and when your child is in charge of bringing in items/treats. A hardcopy has already been sent home.
Please use this link to indicate what you plan to send (there’s also a list of example items too): bit.ly/mrshograde2
Halloween is almost here! We will be celebrating on Tuesday, October 31st.
In the morning, please send your child in his or her costume to school. Please label any items that you are sending to school so that we can better ensure that it stays with him or her. If makeup is part of the costume, please apply it at home in the morning instead of sending it to school.
Ideally the costume is something they can manage independently. Please stay away from costumes that depict anything of a gory or violent nature. Items representing weapons should be kept at home.
At approximately 11:15 am the primary classes will start parading inside the school throughout the primary classrooms. The parade will then continue outside around the perimeter of the playground, weather permitting or, if it rains, in the gym. We will likely be outside around 11:30ish. Parents are invited to stand in the center of the playground and take pictures of your child only please. If it is raining please stand in the gym against the walls and students will parade through the gym.
Please remember that because our numbers are so large having parents come into the school can cause added confusion and poses a safety concern. The students will be dismissed at the regular time in the usual fashion. If you wish to pick your child up early, please go to the office and have him or her paged.
Thank you for your understanding in these matters. We hope that your child has a very spooky, happy, and safe Halloween.
